Muchangpo Tower

As the Muchangpo Tower overlooks the West Sea, you can enjoy a romantic view of the sunset as it sets down the West Sea.

You can also take beautiful pictures with the luminous sea as your background. Moreover, you can also enjoy the sunset with a nice cup of coffee in the café found inside the tower. Enjoy the beautiful view high up in the tower!

Boryeong Jungang Market

Enjoy a variety of dishes in affordable prices!

Aside from food, you can also buy different goods as well as clothes. The market is divided into ‘fashion street’, ‘dried fish street’, and ‘food street’.

Boryeong Cultural Center

Boryeong Cultural Center is 5 minutes away from the market. This is a complex cultural center where you can see the Boryeong Museum, Mudflat ecological science museum, and Boryeong Literary Museum. One unique feature of this place is the ‘60’s street’ that reenact Boryeong of 1960.

Boryeong Coal Factory

The museum has around 3800 exhibits such as conveying equipment, minerals, fossils, measuring tools, drills, etc. The museum was built to make you feel as if you are really inside the coal mine. It has the elevator that goes 400m down in just 1 minute. It’s actually going down from the 2nd floor to the 1st but the special effects make it all the more realistic!

Daecheon Beach Camping Site

Daecheon beach, the best beach of the west coast, has ‘Daecheon Beach Camping Site’ where the cool sea breeze and the pine forest make a harmonious collaboration. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of the beach in the afternoon and the romantic night sea and the sound of the waves at night.

Seongju-san Recreational Forest Camping Site

Seongju-san is also called ‘the lungs of Boryeong’. You can stroll in its cypress forest filled with phytoncide or enjoy camping. The area with a trail that goes through the cypress forest and a beautiful clear stream makes it perfect for family outing.

Muchangpo Caravan Park

Muchangpo, popular for the miraculous sea road, has ‘Muchangpo Caravan Park’ where you can feel like you’re travelling in a camping car. There are a total of 10 caravans and inside you can find bed, kitchen, TV, and other facilities that will allow you to enjoy your trip comfortably.

See the entire Boryeong as you paraglide from the top of Okma-san! The area has a paragliding site and holds an annual paragliding competition. It is frequently visited by those who love hang gliding and paragliding. There is also a rest place prepared beside the gliding site for your convenience. That step towards the sky may be the scariest moment of your life but the view of Boryeong up in the sky will be an unforgettable experience.

Railbike above the sea: Sky bike

Sky bike is the only railbike in Korea that runs above the sea. As you ride on the rail track with the breeze on your hair, you can enjoy the scenery of the white beach and the clear waters 2- 3m high. It starts from the Daecheon Beach, turns around where you’ll find strangely shaped stones, go through Daecheon Port, then comeback. If you choose the right time for the tide, you will feel that you’re running above the water. There are some humps along the way but you won’t find it troublesome because the rail bike is powered by electricity.

The old Nampo Line that used to transport coals have transformed into a railbike that runs through the forest. Enjoy a special railroad adventure that runs through the green forest of Okma-san. It runs a total of 5km back and forth. It runs with electricity so you can easily trail on just by pedaling slightly.

Boat Fishing

There are many islands nearby Boryeong so everyone who likes boat fishing from novices to professionals come and visit Boryeong. Whether young or old, anyone can enjoy boat fishing and you can even eat the fish you caught right on the spot (that is, if you like raw fish) or bring it to a restaurant and brag to your friends with photos of you catching a fish.

  1. Ocheon Port boat fishing

    Catches: webfoot octopus, flatfish, blackhead seabream, rockfish, spotty belly greenling

    It’s located nearby and is easy to fish. As the port is located deep in the bay, you can catch various kind of fish. There are also various points in nearby islands like Wol-do, Jango-do, Hyoja-do, and Wonsan-do so you don’t have to venture far off the port. This is also the reason why Ocheon port boat fishing is famous!

  2. Daecheon Port boat fishing

    Catches: Japanese halfbeak, white flower croaker, blackhead seabream, rockfish

    There are about 40 boats available for boat fishing at Daecheon Port. You may venture out to nearby Wonsan-do, Sapsi-do, Nok-do, and Oeyeon-do and catch 40cm long rockfish. The coastal waters of Daecheon connects to Anmyeon-do’s Namdan and Wonsan-do and with the 78 islets and islands with wide underwater space allows various types of fish to inhabit the waters. However, the sea is not very deep so rockfish that have finished spawning will return to the deep ocean so you can catch large numbers of 20cm fish.

  3. Muchangpo boat fishing

    Catches: rockfish, blackhead seabream, spotty belly greenling, white flower croaker, white croaker, webfoot octopus

    Muchangpo is geographically rocky with lots of underwater rocks so there are nearby points where you can catch rockfish and spotty belly greenling. Even those who are fishing for the first time can have a good time because it’s fairly easy to catch. Also, the coastal waters of Muchangpo, together with Daecheon coastal waters, is known for inhabiting the most white croakers in summer. Points in this area include Seokde-do (15mins away by boat), Hwangjuk-do (30mins away), Jikeon-do, and Yong Island (1hr and 30mins away).

    Oeyeon-do which is 1hr and 40mins away is a fishing ground for all weather and the northernmost part of Seokde-do and the east of Yong Island is the best place to catch white croakers. 30 small fishing boats are available.

Seongju-san National Recreation Forest

Seongju-san National Recreation Forest is a beautiful place where you can find varieties of wild flowers so it’s frequently visited by many photographers. The area also has roads and convenience facilities and has now become a popular tourist spot. It also has a swimming pool where you can cool down from the hot summer.

Gaehwa Art Park

As the name goes, the art park is filled with artistic works that you would need at least 3 hours to tour around the whole place. It has a sculpture park, indoor herb land, Mosan Art Museum that holds various themed exhibits every month, and an outdoor concert hall.

Simyeondong Valley (Seongju Valley)

Seongju-san, located in Seongju-myeon, Boryeong-Si, is a mountain that symbolizes Boryeong. There is a thick forest made of pine, zelkova, and oak of high quality supplying phytoncides excellent for forest therapy or forest bathing. That is why you can also find forest rest houses in the valley. The valley is connected to the forest lodge of Seongju-san which is well traveled as a hiking trail. You can enjoy hiking and swim in the stream. The valley is known to be deep and beautiful. There is also an auto camping site nearby so you can set up a tent and enjoy as long as you want.

Island Dulle-gil

Trek on the islands located around Boryeong! There are various islands that have beautiful trails where you can walk on and enjoy the view of the sea and the fresh air of the forest.

  1. Sapsi-do

    Chungnam’s third biggest island, Sapsi-do. It’s located 1hr away from Daecheon port and is suitable for trekking with its strangely shaped stones, dense forest, and pure sea water.

    It has a number of beaches with white sand and the southern end of the island has Mulmangteo where it submerges in high tide and during low tide, it sprouts fresh water.

  2. Janggo-do

    Located in northwest of Daecheon Port, the waters around the island is shallow and with well developed mudflats and reefs, the island is abundant with various types of marine life. The rocks and the shore create a beautiful scenery and has been named as Taeanhaean National Park. You can tour around the island through the dulle-gil.

  3. Oeyeon-do

    Among the numerous islands in Boryeong, this place has preserved well its natural beauty. It boasts of a beautiful seashore and dense green woods. There are decks and terraces installed in the dulle-gil so it’s very popular among avid trekkers.
