The festival had 4 million visitors with 400 thousand being foreigners with most of the international visitors coming from North America and Europe. With the festival having facilities for children, there are many families that come to enjoy as well. Many come either alone or with friends.

You can buy tickets online or on-site. Online tickets are sold in June and only 30% of the day’s sales are available online while the rest (70%) are sold on-site. If tickets are sold out online, you must come to the festival venue to purchase. If you plan to buy on-site on weekends, do come early in the morning or else you will not be able to buy or you would have to stand in a long line. The entire Daecheon Beach is the festival venue but tickets are required in areas where you can enjoy the mud experience and the mud rides. Popular ones have long lines so it’s best to come early for them. Street performances such as busking in the streets are free to watch.

Clothes/ swim suit: Wear clothes which you don’t mind destroying because mud is not very easy to wash off. You may also wear swim suits or rash guards if you do not have any outfit to sacrifice.
Cash: Most food stalls will only accept cash rather than cards. Remember to put them in a waterproof bag.
Waterproof camera: We highly recommend waterproof cameras or disposable cameras if you wish to take pictures of the festival.
Slippers: The floor may get heated due to the sun. Also, there may be sharp objects that may be lying around (e.g. rocks).
Waterproof bag: You can buy waterproof bags for 3000 to 5000 won at the site. You can also use Ziploc as an alternative.
Towel or a shawl: You may feel chilly after swimming in the sea or playing with the mud especially when the afternoon is cloudy. Bring a towel or a shawl to dry and cover yourself up.
Earplugs: Prevent mud from getting into your ears in mud tubs and mud prison.

The mud itself is an all-natural and rich with nutrients and majority of the visitors have not experienced any skin diseases after the festival. However, if your skin is extra sensitive, you may experience some itchiness so we advise you to rinse yourself well. Visitors must be responsible for their own health issues.

Boryeong is not a big coastal city unlike Busan so it may be difficult to find a place to stay if you do not reserve ahead of time.
You might not be able to find a place to stay if you reserve too late. To reserve, you may use lodging websites such as Airbnb, Trivago, Agoda, Hotels Combined, etc. or click ‘accommodation’ in the above category ‘Plan your trip’ to reserve your room. However, not all places have internet reservations so you may have to call them yourself. Many of them do not understand English so we recommend that you receive assistance from a Korean friend. As many guesthouses and hostels do not provide beds, be prepared to sleep on the floor with a thin mat as your mattress.

You can also opt to go for group tours where you have accommodation and transportation settled by the company with a schedule as well. There are various companies that organize such packaged deals, both Korean and foreign.

You can enjoy fresh seafood such as clams, fish, shrimp, and more in most of the restaurants. Restaurants are at a walkable distance from the festival site. If you’re not a seafood person, you can enjoy meals in family restaurants, fast food restaurants, and cafes nearby the beach. There are also food stalls that sell cup noodles, skewers, and more inside the festival venue. You can also choose to order delivery or buy food from convenience stores.

You’ll never be alone in the festival because you will be able to make new friends while you play in the mud! If you come as a group, you may want to book your bus and train tickets beforehand so that you can all sit together as a group.
In the festival, chances are, you and your friends will get lost in the crowd. But you can also make new friends through that experience. Since most of you will not have a phone to contact each other, decide on a meet-up place so that you won’t have to go looking for one another.

Visit all the booths and if you become tired of playing in the mud, you can always go for a swim at the sea.

As Boryeong is not a major coastal city, you may experience lack of facilities such as hotels, shower stalls and restrooms in the area. Also, due to the overwhelming number of people, you may have to wait in a long line to use the shower stalls and restrooms. Shower stalls are pay-per-use.

Pets, smoking, and drinking are not allowed in the festival. Please be mindful and responsible of your actions.
